Older Girls Party Idea

I saw a party where Charming Charlie's allowed someone to have a party at their store. They allowed a small table for finger foods and cake to be set up and the girls were able to try accessories on and model them. The guests were given a small discount for purchasing the items and the host gave each girl a small gift certificate to the store so that they could purchase something. This was the party favor. It was a cute idea. It would work well at For Love /Forever 21 too. I would suggest checking with your local store's manager to see if it is something they would accomodate. Offer a small payment.

Haven't written in awhile....

I've been working hard to think of a very unique, special theme and nothing is jumping out at me. I've noticed glow in the dark parties are becoming popular, but I can't think of any really original idea in regards to one. Well... sometimes you just have to wait until inspiration hits you! I'll post when it does!

Angry birds party game

This weekend I saw a group make an angry birds party game that was a real winner with the crowds. They put several different sized angry birds plush animals on various sized empty cardboard boxes and then gave the party goer some bean bags to throw at the animals in an attempt to knock them over. This great idea could be adapted to another theme as well.

Bubble theme party

There are so many fun and inexpensive things to do with this theme. Now is the time to start purchase bubble machines and toys for a party that will be held next summer or fall. These toys are deeply discounted in the summer toy aisles. Use your imagination and turn this theme into a Squinkies party. After all, they come in little bubble packs. Don't take the bubble theme so literally and see what other ideas can be incorporated. Call Party Ez to plan and host your child's bubble or Squinkies themed bubble party.

Farm themed party

Take advantage of this beautiful fall weather and hold a farmed themed party. It doesn't need to be complex or include a hired petting farm/zoo. Keep things rustic looking and simple. Country decor can be used. Red checked tablecloths, straw hats, wagons, stuffed farm animals, straw bales, and shovels can be used to set the scene. Bob for apples, have a candied apple bar/buffet, play pin the tail on the donkey, duck, duck goose, and a game of tag that you can call corraling the animals or something related to the theme. Another thought is to loosen a bale of straw and hide prizes in it. Tell the kids they are looking for a needle in a haystack. This would be an action packed party that would be fun and very inexpensive. Call Party ez of Hampton Roads to help you with your event!

Airplane Themed Party

I have found that the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach rents their facility and will even have flight performances for specials events. I have not made contact with them yet to determine if they would consider a child's birthday party, but I think this would be a great setting for your little aviator's party. You could consider a trip to the museum and flight simulator or visit during one of their scheduled air shows as a party activity if you are not able to hold the party at the museum. Their admission fees are reasonable.

Tattoo theme party?

I've been wondering if a tattoo theme party would he an unique theme for tweens and teens or if it would too risque'. I think creating a party around temporary tattoos of some sort would he great for older kids and I am a relatively conservative person. I'd love to hear Others thoughts on this theme!

Another successful event!

A great time was had by all at S's party this weekend! It was the Party EZ Barbie Design Studio theme with a few extras. The children decorated their t-shirt tunics, a doll dress, sunglasses, and sunglass carrying case, danced, hula hooped, and played dress up during a "free play" time. I love incorporating some free play into parties for the younger kids as it is a means to let some energy out and just enjoy each other's company. Since this was an afternoon party buffet table including punch, cheese and crackers, marshmallows, pretzels, graham crackers, bananas, and strawberries for dipping in chocolate. No actual meal was served.

Busy Summer!

I've been busy with all manner of things the last few weeks and haven't had much time to post. I should be posting more regularly once summer is over. I've been spending a lot time preparing for my daughter's party next weekend. She's decided on a Barbie theme and I'm really excited about it. I'm incorporating the Barbie package listed on this site and a few extras. Stay tuned for the update!

Back to school parties

It's time to start thinking about back to school parties. Try a play on words for an original theme. A school of fish could give you an underwater theme to your party. Go for the traditional with apples, school supplies, and more expected decor and activities. Another idea is an unexpected plaid theme reminiscent of school uniforms. A pancake breakfast party is also a great idea for a back to school party. Put on your thinking caps or call party ez of Hampton Roads to host an original back to school hook party!

Places to hold a construction themed party

I've found that some Home Depot stores will allow you to hold a party at their stores. Most incorporate it into their weekly children's workshops, but some will hold it in another area or at another time. The best thing is that there is no charge as the workshop re free. Some will allow you to bring cake. Others will not allow food. No lit candles are allowed. Call your local stores to arrange the party.

Seahorse Theme

I've been visualizing a pretty, soft, natural look beach or water themed party that incorporates natural shells, sand dollars, seahorses, starfish, soft blue-green glass , and maybe a little navy blue or red thrown in for accents. The great thing about decorating for a party in this manner is that the items could serve as decor in your home or garden afterwards if like the coastal, shabby chic, or cottage looks. The items could also be multi-purposed for family and adult parties and cook outs.

Watermelon Themed Party

I've been inspired by one of my favorite tablecloths that I use for family cookouts on our picnic table. It's a bright , summery, green on green stripe that screams SUMMERTIME to me! This is the basis for the creation of my watermelon themed party. This is a messy party that requires a good amount a space, but it is a simple , down home feeling type party. Decorations can include watermelon cut out strung as garland, red and green streamers, solid red and green balloons, red balloons with watermelon seeds drawn on them, red checkered table cloths and napkins and striped green as well. This will require the purchase of a lot of watermelon, but that and other food items will be the bulk of your costs. Activities: lawn bowling: fill empty 2 liter or smaller soda bottles with colored water. Use was small watermelons as the bowling ball. Ring Toss: use the rinds of the watermelon to replace the horseshoe in a game of horseshoes. Pinata: make or buy a watermelon shaped pinata. If that cannot be found a sun shaped pinata would be great too! Seed Spitting Contest Guess the weight of the watermelon Various themed crafts: one example is to cut watermelon shapes from colored paper and glue on black pom poms or sequins as seeds.

Lady Bug Themed Party

I was at a party today that had a lady bug theme. The mother of the birthday girl made the most amazing cupcakes with chocolate ladybugs nestled in grass and flowers made of frosting. Wonderful touch!

Memorial Day/Americana Party Supplies

Remember to look for Memorial Day sale items for future parties. Bunting, flags, colored outdoor lighting, red, white, and blue decor could lend itself to a variety of themes as well as Flag Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day.

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

I've seen some really great ideas for making toadstools or mushroom props. One really great idea I came across was where a person took small and medium size wicker baskets, planters or what some use for small wastebaskets. They were turned upside and plump, round cushions sewn in fabric such as red and white polka dots were placed on top. It was fantastic! Perfect forma garden, fairy, smurf, or Mario party.

Egyptian Theme Party for kids

One might think of having an Egyptian theme party that includes, mummies, Cleopatra, The pyramids, and spinxx for some decor elements. An activity could be an " Archeolgical dig" and another could decorating a terracotta pot or making a clay pot and decorating it with hieroglyphics.

Skate board kids party

Skateboarding theme party: Host a skate boarding theme party utilizing your area skate park. Decor can include your families skateboards, stickers, and posters. Ask your local skating store if you can by an posters that they no longer need. Include supplies such as markers, poster board, or card stock, and clear contact paper for skaters to make their stickers for their board. Don't forget a few pairs of regular and safety scissors to cut shapes and needed sizes of poster board.

A trip to Garden Ridge has sparked my imagination for a Greek themed party for older children. I saw a lot of items at the store that could be used for the decor. I am still working on some activity ideas, but my first thoughts are to include some sort of Greek themed charades, pictionary, or trivia game, toga making, a photo op, make a "laurel leaf" wreath, the " olympics", or a cooking activity.

Hampton Roads residents, particularly those in Portsmouth, Western Branch, and Harbourview Areas should think about taking advantage of the Pokey Smokey at Portsmouth city park and hold a train themed party at the park. The city rents shelters to residents and non residents and the train rides are very well priced.

Game Night

Have "family game night" type party for your next event. You can borrow games or ask guests to bring their favorite game to share. Worried a about seating? Don't be! You could even set up stations with various games on the floor using pillows and various floor cushions. Have a " concession stand" supplied with popcorn, pretzels, chips, candy, and snacks for your guests. Concession stands are associated with sporting events and games so having one at the party is a play on words, but very fitting!

Mystery Party for tweens and teens

Once kids reach a certain age these is the "been there, done that" problem with planning a party.
One great idea is a mystery party. There are several sites that have mystery party skits/packages for sale. You can decorate and choose the actual theme based on the type of party you choose.

This is a great idea for older tweens and teens.
I have hosted a medieval murder mystery with great success. This was for a tween and included some additional theme related entertainment and props. The party was a great success and unique as well !

Contact Party EZ if you are interested in a mystery themed party for your child.

After holiday sales for party decor:part 5

Now is the time to shop the clearance racks at party stores, discount stores, and kitchen stores for clearance ST. Patricks Day items. Keep in my mind any decorating or parties you may want to hold next year and that any lucky horseshoe items have the potential to work for a pony themed party.

We've got spirit!

My daughter has decided that she will be a cheerleader when she grows up. Her sudden interest has made me consider a cheerleading themed party. Choose two colors as team colors and design your decor around them. Activities can include making hair ribbons, spirit sticks, pennants, and pom plms. You could provide tumbling activities or help the team create a cheer.

Monkeying Around

I've been stumped this week so my posting is a little later than usual. I am latching on to a fondness for the resurgence in sock monkey toys and paraphernalia. A sock monkey theme is easy to create. There is a variety of commercial party products available and a basic color theme of brown, creme, and vibrant red would be easy to find. The menu should include some dishes with bananas or banana flavoring. ;Activities would be a sock monkey craft, monkey themed games, or bounce house.

Fireman Theme Party

Take advantage of the upcoming spring weather and host an outdoor fireman theme party. Party EZ can help host your event!  Have an obstacle race, a stop, drop, and roll contest, put out a pretend fire, water play, and a race to see who can don their fireman's uniform first.  You may want to schedule a visit to your local fire station or see if a volunteer fireman can visit your event.  The color theme would be red and yellow and of course chili should be served!

Bicycle Parade Party

I am posting a bit early this week. Spring is in the air in southeastern Virginia and it has me thinking of getting outdoors for events. This week has me taking a look at a bike themed party. What kid doesn't like riding their bike.  A bike themed event could be at you home,  park or nature reserve with a bike path. You will be asking guests to bring their bikes with them so it would be great if you could have the party at your home if it is a neighborhood party.   Introduce old fashioned bike decorations such as clipping playing cards to spokes, homemade streamers, and license plates using plastic dinner plates. Bike races, rides, or an obstacle course can round off the activities.  You may want to contact local police or fire department to visit for a short presentation of bike safety or possibly to lead the bike parade. They often are willing to offer related give aways that you may want to use as party favors.
The final activity would be the parade of decorated bikes.
This is a very unique, easy, and inexpensive party.  It does, however,  require a fair amount of pre-planning and preparation.  A lot of adult supervision is also required for the obvious safety reasons.  Please call Party EZ for assistance.

Rates for services are listed on the blog.

I haven't been so excited about a party theme in a long time! I came across some articles about making candy sushi which has inspired me to create a very unique party theme!

Art themed party

It's a challenge to hold a party during the winter months. I think an art or painter themed party is a great idea for many ages. Decorate with bright primary colors. Use plastic tablecloths or use plain white butcher paper or paper tableclothes for the tablescape.  The children can write and draw on the paper cloths as part of the party activities.  Set the activity table with pretty buckets of crayons, markers, and colored pencils.  Provide each guest with an easel and small canvas. You may be able find decorative easels at a discount store. These would be sufficient for use during the party. Disposable artist palettes and poster paint can be found at your local arts and crafts store. You may also be able to find them at a big box retailer or a dollar store. Provide your guests with painters smock or an apron. Let them create a masterpiece. While the paintings are drying the guests can eat.  Conclude the party with an art show where the adults admire the paintings. Party favors can consist of art supplies.
Party EZ of Hampton Roads can provide decorating, planning and shopping or hostess services at cost of $25 per hour, with a minimum of 3 hrs .

Pins and Needles

Consider hosting a sewing themed party for ages 8 and up.  You can contact a local sewing, fabric, or quilting shop to see if the party can be held there or have it at home . Chose a project that employs hand sewing and minimal use of sewing machines if you do not have a large enough number of machines at your disposal.  Think about asking to borrow machines too.  Decorating can be simple with cutouts of scissors, spool of thread, pincushions.  Display bits and pieces of fabrics.  Favors can be the finished project and a handful of sewing notions.

Hot Chocolate for everyone

Throw a cocoa party to fight the winter blues.  Set a beautiful buffet using winter themed holiday decor and any chocolate themed items you may have in your home. Choose a few differnet flavors or types of cocoa artfully served in teapots or coffee urns, add a fantastic display of mix ins like star or heart  shaped marshmallows, chocolate shavings, and cinnamon and you've got the makings for a great, fun, inexpensive get together.

Hansel and Gretel Theme

I love the classics and what could be better then incorporating Hansel and Gretel into your candy themed event!  Make a woodland forest straight from the storybook with houseplants or topiaries for an indoor party or hold the party outdoors at your home or a local park.  Offer a treasure hunt along a winding path as one of the activities.  Set up a beautiful candy buffet  and table with graham crackers and cake decorating frosting bags so that each guest can make "grandmothers cottage " for an activity and party favor.

Hollywood theme

Consider hosting a Hollywood themed event.  A red carpet is a must! Decorate with black and gold or black and silver.  Of course a lot of stars should be used. Activities can include movie trivia games,
charades, Scene It games, and everyone can create a stepping stone from a kit.  Once completed the stepping stones can be used to make a " walk of fame ". Each guest can be photographed by their own stepping stone.  Food and table settings should be elegant.  Drink should include sparkling juice, water, or a frothy punch.  Wind things down with a movie " screening" and your party is complete!

An additional activity could be decorating plastic sunglasses which, along with the stepping stone and photos, should be used as party favors.
